The event space for women

A community-focused interior design project proposing a dedicated social event space for women within VEND Marketplace, Annerley. The project explored how interior design can encourage connection, belonging and spontaneous social interaction in response to increasing experiences of loneliness and social disconnection.

The proposal was designed to compliment VEND’s existing community-focused environment, which brings together local retailers, food, workshops and creative activities under one roof.

The project was driven by the question: How can interior space make it easier for people to connect?

Research into social connection informed a design approach centred around creating opportunities for both active and passive participation. Rather than relying on a single formal gathering space, the proposal provides a range of environments that allow users to choose how they engage from joining a group activity to simply sitting nearby and observing.
